Fun for FREE – Staten Island Ferry !

My last post about ‘Doing something for fun at no/less money’ did not contain this wonderful entertainment ‘Staten Island Ferry’ which is completely free 😉

From wiki:

The Staten Island Ferry is a passenger ferry operated by the New York City Department of TransportationManhattan and Staten Island. The ferry departs Manhattan from South Ferry, the five mile journey takes about 25 minutes each way. that runs between

This small journey was wonderful, it was (like) floating in the sea and enjoying the wonderful Manhattan sky line view, and Statue of Liberty on the other side (also my high rise Office building on NJ side). When we (me and my friend Rumana) reached Staten Island we took a local bus tour to see most part of the staten island, it was very nice. While coming back it was 10 PM at night. And we stand on the front side of the deck (just like Titanic movie 😉 , only except the fact, for both of us the other half is missing 😦 )

It was so amazing, I could not believe we could enjoy such beauty and wonderful journey just for free. The waves were hitting the ferry, and the night sparkling lightning of Manhattan looked incredibly beautiful. It was great fun and great entertainment for me!!

Stumbling and Things to do for Fun!!

Mann!! I can’t think of a better tool like stumbleupon (off course after google – considering it as a search tool). I came accross thousands unknown but very interesting websites using this!! It is an awesome tool that serve two great purposes. One – Great Time pass, when i am bored to death. Two- Knowing amazing things that I would not have known otherwise !!

Anyway, so here is one thing i came accross recently (like thousands others) – “60 fun things for little or no money” and I was hinking whihc one of those I woud be intersted in 🙂 Here is my list out of those 60 that I prefer to do for fun (with little or no money 😉

  1. Enjoy a concert in the park – Spring and summer begin free things to do in the park season. Concerts and movies are just the beginning.
  2. Go camping – Still one of the cheapest vacations one can take, especially through the US National Parks system.
  3. Go fishing.
  4. Have a picnic.
  5. Visit a museum -There are lots of free museums and many others take a donation.
  6. Work on an arts and craft projects
  7. Run through your garden sprinkler.
  8. Play a pickup basketball or volleyball game in the park.
  9. Visit the library. Take out books, movies, music or take advantage of some of their great programs.
  10. Find a fireworks display.
  11. Make a kite and take it for a ride.
  12. Go for a bike ride. (I dont know how to ride bike…but wanna try)
  13. Visit the zoo. Most zoos are affordable and if you get a summer zoo pass you can visit as often as you like for one price.
  14. Read
  15. Visit a street fair. Food is cheap, plus craft displays, flea market finds and entertainment abound.
  16. Tour a college campus
  17. Bowling  – A night out for the family really doesn’t cost much, especially if you bring your own snacks.
  18. Tour a television or radio station
  19. Attend a tv show taping
  20. Stroll through a public garden
  21. Take advantage of local cultural events.
  22. Take a day trip to Washington DC where most of the museums are free.
  23. Teach yourself a new language using online tutorials and materials from the library.
  24. Start a scrapbook and fill it with items found outdoors.
  25. Jigsaw puzzles!

Hope I am able to do atleast 50% of those 🙂

Just a Post!!

Just wanted to post something…anything !! Well, nothing is coming in my mind….the brain is completely blank and I can’t think of a single topic to write about…but I have thousands things in my mind which I want to talk about day and night and I could keep on writing on those topics on and on but for some reason when I really open the blog and about to start writing I see nothing but blank thoughts!!

Strange!! When I am in the subway…many interesting topics pop into my head and I immidiately decide to write few words on those and I forget…am I getting older?? Guess I am!!!

Like an old, tired lady I was reading some poems on life…here is one I would like to put in my blog:

A Poem on Life by Cory Calder:

Life is short, life is sour,
Slowly marching by the hour.
Life is fun, life is sweet,
Filled with dreams of no deceit.
Life is hard, life is gloom,
We fear our coming doom.
Life is family, life is friends,
We hope to never meet the ends.
Life is fear, life is greed,
Living under an evil creed.
Life is love, life is beauty,
Carefree of any duty.
Life is evil, life is lust,
We find it hard to give trust.
Life is hope, life is sharing,
Showing others were always caring.
Life is war, life is hate,
All destined for the same fate.
Life is good, and life is bad,
It always makes us happy and sad.

A Poem- Be Thankful!

BE THANKFUL
By Author Unknown

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don’t know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you’re tired and weary,
because it means you’ve made a difference.

It’s easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.
Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
and they can become your blessings.

Community Team Work!!

On May 6th, 2008 I attended Community team Work at ‘The Island School’. Our firm arganizes some community team work event where we can participate and help making difference in the community. This help to assisting those in need and the communities where we can work and live through volunteer endeavors and partnerships with nonprofit organizations. This time we went to a school wheer we could help some minor student in 7th and 8th grade with technology. We helped them creating posters and videos. We also have discussion with them about the importance of technology and how they can improve and answer their questions. We tried to motivate them to get involved  more into technology to shape their future career!

It was a wonderful way of doing something for helping the community around! It was also fun being with children, listening to their ideas and working with collgues in improving those.

Feel Like Going Home!!

These days I am listening to this wonderful song again and again!! Am I getting too old???

(The youtube video is included below)

Lyrics (Resource)

Lord, I feel like going home
I tried and I fail and Im tired and weary
Everything Ive done was wrong
And I feel like going home

Lord, I tried to see you through
But it was too much for me
Now Im coming home to you
And I feel like going home

Clouded skies are rolling in
And not a friend to help me
From all the places that Ive been
And I feel like going home

Lord, I feel like going home
I tried and I fail and Im tired and weary
Everything Ive done is wrong
And I feel like going home

So Many Things to Know and See!!

We live this short life and there are billions and trillions of things that we never get a chance to know/notice!! Everyday we learn many  new things. Almost everyday something new suprises me. I, sometimes can’t believe the amount of knowledge and experience around us we still need to acquire but so much limited with time!! Specially every now and then I come to know about some natural events that suprises me a lot. Today (for the  first time in my life – dumb me 😦 ) I came to know about ‘Moonbow. This is like rainbow. It is produced by moon instead of sun. I have never heard of it before, and I was so much amazed seeing it.

It is little difficult to see it cleaarly as the lights are ususally too faint.  Moonbows are most easily viewed when the moon is near to full (when it is brightest). For other than those produced by waterfalls, the moon must be low in the sky (less than 42 degrees and preferably lower) and the sky must be dark. And of course there must be rain falling opposite the moon. This combination of requirements makes moonbows much more rare than rainbows produced by the sun. (Resource)
